Latest PRC Philatelic News

Updated: September 2, 2010

The new printed price lists are all in the mail to our mailing list customers.

We recently picked up a used copy of the 2008 Michel catalogue, and we completed the tedious process of adding the Michel catalogue numbers to our online unified price list. This should make it easier for our European customers to find exactly what they are looking for. If any of our customers can help us fill in the numbers from 2007 to date it will be appreciated.

We recently received another batch of new issues which included the sheetlets of 4 for the Year of the Tiger issue.

We are actively buying some of the more scarce PRC sets which we occasionally find here and there underpriced enough to allow resale. These are added to the supplement price lists as they become available.

The PRC market in China has remained generally stable since our last report. A few of the most scarce issues continue to rise. Whether this is a long term trend or was a summer lull is hard to pinpoint.

Last year we discovered a newly published CD catalogue for Manchurian Local Overprinted issues. It has the stamp pictures in color, and they are listed alphabetically by region. No catalogue numbers. This should be a great supplement to the Kerr catalogue aiding in stamp identification, and a must for all MLO collectors. Details on the MLO price list.

Reminders

We recently received a beautiful extra fine never hinged set of #938,943a,948a. A similar unfolded set sold recently on eBay for $6200 in spirited bidding. This set has the #943a strip folded once. Yang discounts the strips $150 each if folded. The other strip is unfolded and the gold is untarnished. You will find this set on the unified supplement list until sold. A very nice mint never hinged set of the perforated Mei Lan Fang issue (#620-7) has also been added.

Another 2009 issue surfaced after publication of the 2009 supplement. It is a souvenir sheet which was a freebie in the 2009 year sets from the CNSC. It contains 4 of #3751 (national flag special use stamps) with a large label between the two vertical pair of stamps. We are guessing the first day of issue will be Dec 31 but have no way yet of finding out.  It has been added to the price list at the end of the 2009 listings as tentative Scott number 3751a. We also somehow missed the Scott listed sheetlet #3572a.  Spaces for these issues will be provided in the 2010 supplement pages.

The 2011 Scott Catalogue Volume 2 was published in May, and as expected many PRC issues took a big boost. Never-the-less, many of their prices are now obsolete as they were set in place in early February.

The 2009 supplement pages to our PRC specialty album have been available since March. This one is 39 pages, and the cost is $19.50 plus $3.00 shipping (and $1.75 if the order is under $50). California residents also need to remember to add 8.75% sales tax. Please also remember the $25 minimum merchandise level for using a credit card.

The #3769-72 sheetlet is a bit too big to fit on one of our album pages. If you ordered one thinking there would space for it on the new pages (which we had announced) and this is now a problem for you, please feel free to return it for a refund. It is still a valid 2009 issue - just no place to mount it.

As of January 1, 2010, all international insured mail needs to have a full customs declaration attached to the outside of the envelope. The only way to avoid customs is to pay for the order with cash or a postal money order and have it shipped via uninsured airmail. The reason given for the change is to make sure nobody here in the USA is aiding international terrorism via the postal system.

In 2009 there was a run on the SARS stamp (#3275) and our only stock left is in complete sheets which are very scarce. We have removed the singles from our price lists and list only the complete sheet of 12 stamps which the collectors in China desire the most for this issue. You may be able to find a needed single on our supplement list or from one of our competitors. Many Chinese dealers are willing to take all we can supply at $7 (or more) per stamp which was our last singles price.

When sending us a fax make sure your fax machine is set to imprint your fax number on the fax sent. Our machine is set to ignore faxes without the number because of the plethora of junk faxes coming through lately.

We still have four of the scarce Yang listed PRC money order stamps and still can't find a good place to put them on our online price lists, so, for the time being , they will remain here. We have MO6 at $20, MO7 at $20, MO11 at $10, and MO14 at $40.

A new diversion for Cliff - z scale model trains (see home page for link).
